Finlaggan Castle is a ruin from the days of the Lord of the Isles.
This is where the medieval ruler of the Scottish archipelago was entrenched. On a small island in a pond in the middle of Islay.
Historians believe that Whiskey came to Scotland in connection with Angus Macdonald's marriage to Áine Ní Chatháin from Irish Ulster in 1300. Her entourage of 140 people probably included people skilled in distilling.
How perfect is It's not like we get to tell that story at the Ardbeg Embassy itself in the middle of Stockholm. The Malt Whisky World Cup's most powerful qualifying tasting is based on Finlaggan.
The whisky made by a secret distillery on the south coast of Islay. Chillingly smoky with a distinctive note of cauliflower smoke for the cabbage soup break. A unique signature for this cult distillery that was resurrected from the slumber in the late 1990s.
What fits? better than putting together a dream team to challenge Finlaggan. Like the icon Ardbeg whose name is on the sign outside this well-visited whisky bar. A rivalry that will spark sparks between two giants on the Islay whisky throne!

The Spirits/Whisky News is organizing the Malt Whisky World Cup. 135 distilleries from all over the world compete for the title of ”The World’s Best Malt Whisky”. 30 tastings throughout Sweden. The jury consists of whisky lovers who blind taste and vote for the best whisky. Voting procedure: Each taster votes for the two malts they want to advance to the semi-finals. The gold candidate gets 3 points, silver gets 1 point. The majority vote decides. Competition classes: The World Cup has three taste categories.
