Henrik Aflodal, who wrote the book about Swedish Whisky. A unique collection of twelve pioneer editions is on display. Henrik brings rich stories from the days when whisky was boiled.
The tasting begins with a throwback to the first prelude in February 2006 when Mackmyra premiered. What did the start of the Swedish whisky wonder really taste like? Next up is Urania. The first legally distilled malt whisky made in a copper pot still on an island in Sweden (and the second after Mackmyra). Hven premiered in 2012.
Smögen was also early, with Primör, a powder keg of smoke, released in 2013. The same year saw the release of the legendary Grythyttan's second release, Remonteur, in an edition of a thousand bottles.
From Box (now High Coast) we get a smoky single cask dated 2016 that was only sold at the distillery. Isle of Lime Roma is the name of the first public release of Gotland Whisky released the following year. Gammelstilla's first Isak Mackey was released at Systembolaget on October 2, 2017.
Recent whisky projects are also included. Like Agitator's first release of its main product Single Malt from 2021. Norrtelje Bränneri, known for its apple orchard and punch lager, sells Roslags whisky.
More unusual whisky is the Rislund brothers' rye whisky made in Strömsund in Jämtland by perhaps the smallest distillery in the country. Wannborga is the Öland winery with a whisky still that was active in the late 2010s.
The real rarity in the collection is Lauri Pappinen's smoky 9-year-old brewed in the early 2000s at Gute Vingård and released in 200 copies for 4901 SEK per bottle!
We will try 12 different Swedish whiskies.
After the tasting, a hot dish is included.
