They said it wouldn't work, that it was impossible, and only a few believed in the Octomore concept, but!
In 2002, Bruichladdich took a bold gamble and distilled the first batch of Octomore. Five years later, in 2007, this pioneering whisky was released to the world, and the rest is history.
Now, 22 years later, Bruichladdich continues to amaze and enchant whisky enthusiasts with new releases of Octomore.
Each new Octomore is unique – but are they really as different as they seem? Tonight we won't just be trying the latest Octomore 14.4, an exclusive release that was only released at the distillery.
We'll put our taste buds to the test as we compare different releases against each other. Does the type of barrel or number of years aged really make a difference?
We are going to try the following Octomore:
• Islay Barley 9.3, 10.3, 12.3: These whiskies are a tribute to the Islay terroir, where the barley is grown in the island's windswept fields and provides a flavor profile that is deep and complex.
• Virgin Oak 8.4, 10.4, 14.4: By aging the whisky in virgin oak barrels, Bruichladdich explores new depths of flavour, with notes of spice and vanilla that develop over time.
• A 10-year-old: A whisky that has been allowed to mature and develop a rich character over a decade, with a perfect balance of smokiness and sweetness.
Have you never tried an Octomore?
