Samalens Armagnac Tasting

Samalens has been distilling, blending and aging eaux-de-vie in Bas-Armagnac since 1882. Using their rich knowledge to foster innovation and offer new taste experiences, Samalens seeks to showcase the potential of Armagnac and refine it while preserving its distinctive characteristics.

Samalens has a fairly typical distillery: four traditional pot-stills from Armagnac and four traditional pot-stills from Cognac. However, traditional distillation requires experience and continuous tasting throughout the process. In order to be as precise as possible, Salamens” ”cuts” are not standardized. Instead, they rely entirely on the distiller’s taste tests.

The term ”cuts” refers to when the distiller makes an assessment of the properties of the incoming spirit and separates the distillate flowing from the distillery into separate collection vessels.
Samalens then ages each eau-de-vie in traditional 450-liter French oak barrels. The lightly toasted barrels are selected to preserve the eau-de-vie aromas without heavy oak treatment. After being aged in new barrels, the Armagnac is moved to used barrels. It is then allowed to mature slowly until it is bottled.

The tasting will be held by Adrien Planas at Mandracore Spirits who has Samalens Armagnac in their portfolio.
